The Miami Marlins on Tuesday hired Fredi Gonzalez as third base coach and Mike Pagliarulo as hitting coach.

Gonzalez managed the then-Florida Marlins from 2007 to 2010 before being fired.

He managed the Atlanta Braves for six years until he was fired after a 9-28 start last season.

Pagliarulo is a former major leaguer. He will replace Barry Bonds, who was fired last month after one season with the team.

Coaching changes

Third base coach Matt Williams and hitting coach Mark Grace, two of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ best-known former players, will not be retained on the team’s coaching staff under new Manager Torey Lovullo. ... Hitting coach Tom Brunansky and first base coach Butch Davis won’t be back with the Minnesota Twins next season.

Going free agent

Right-hander Dillon Gee and outfielder Daniel Nava have become free agents after refusing outright assignments from the Kansas City Royals to triple-A Omaha.

Gee was 8-9 with a 4.68 earned-run average in 14 starts and 19 relief appearances last season.

Nava hit .223 with one home run and 13 runs batted in with the Angels and Royals.
