Wizards hand Cavaliers first home loss

John Wall scored a season-high 35 points and the Washington Wizards handed the Cleveland Cavaliers their first home loss of the season, 97-85, on Tuesday night.

The Wizards, who never trailed, scored the first 10 points of the game and went on a 9-0 run to begin the second half in snapping a four-game losing streak.

LeBron James had 24 points, but the Cavaliers lost for the first time in 10 games this season at Quicken Loans Arena.

Wall was 14 of 24 from the field and had 10 assists. Bradley Beal scored 18 and Marcin Gortat added 15 points with 11 rebounds for the Wizards.

Washington went on a 15-2 run in the second quarter to break open a one-point game and led 54-43 at halftime. The Wizards scored the first nine points of the second half to take a 21-point lead.

Memphis 113, at New Orleans 104: Marc Gasol scored a career-high 38 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and the Grizzlies beat the Pelicans despite the return of New Orleans’ starting guard Tyreke Evans and top reserve Norris Cole. Evans was the Pelicans’ best offensive player with 20 points and 10 assists, but that wasn’t enough to overcome a Memphis squad that scored 52 points in the paint and missed only one of 26 free throws. Gasol was 11 of 22 from the field and made all 16 of his foul shots. Anthony Davis had 17 points, 14 rebounds and career high-tying nine blocked shots for the Pelicans, but he struggled with his shooting, making four of 15 from the field and eight of 13 free throws.

at Brooklyn 94, Phoenix 91: Brook Lopez scored 23 points and the Nets won their fourth in a row at home. Brandon Knight scored 26 points and Eric Bledsoe had 17 for the Suns, who had a long dry spell from the field in the fourth quarter after leading by nine earlier in the period, then botched their final possession trailing by three with four seconds remaining.

Orlando 96, at Minnesota 93: Nikola Vucevic had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, and the Magic won four in a row for the first time since December 2012. Andrew Wiggins scored 27 points for the Timberwolves, who fell to 2-7 at home, but he missed a free throw with 5.6 seconds to play that would have tied the score.

Dallas 115, at Portland 112 (ot): Wesley Matthews scored 18 points in his return to Portland and helped the Mavericks rally past the Trail Blazers, 115-112, in overtime.Deron Williams had a season-high 30 points and Dirk Nowitzki added 28 as the Mavericks snapped a four-game losing streak on the road.
