U.S. curlers earn a ‘fun’ victory at Sochi Olympics

SOCHI, Russia -- The U.S. men Wednesday finally earned a victory in curling, but it took some advice from an unlikely source.

American skip John Shuster said he received a text message from his wife, Sarah, the night before the game, telling him to have more fun.

“It really changed my complete being,” Shuster said. “All of a sudden I had a better attitude and, holy cow, I threw the rock better too.”

The U.S. team trailed early but scored six points through the middle stretch of their game against Denmark and held on for the 9-5 win at the Ice Cube Curling Center.

Shuster and his squad are to continue the round-robin competition against Britain on Thursday.
