Beach volleyball winning streak of Gibb-Patterson team in jeopardy

Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson are on a four-tournament winning streak, but the top-seeded pair at the AVP Championships beach volleyball tournament in Huntington Beach have their work cut out for them this weekend.
Gibb admitted that a winning streak of this magnitude is something that “just never happens” in beach volleyball.
Gibb and Patterson fell to Brad Keenan and John Mayer, 21-19, 12-21, 15-13, Saturday morning and must work their way through the loser’s bracket to earn a shot at a fifth consecutive title.
They play an afternoon match against 11th-seeded Casey Jennings and Nils Nielsen to begin their comeback attempt.
The tournament has already lost 2008 Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser in the men’s draw and 2012 Olympic silver medalist Jen Kessy in the women’s draw.
The double-elimination event concludes Sunday with the women’s championship match at 3 p.m. PT and the men’s final at 4 p.m. Pacific time. The finals will be televised live by CBS Sports Network.
