Two-time British Open champion Greg Norman said he was "lucky" after suffering an injury to his left hand while using a chainsaw Saturday.

Norman posted a photo to his Instagram account Saturday, showing him in the hospital with a bandaged left hand and arm. The caption says: "Working with a chainsaw ALWAYS be respectful of the unexpected. I was one lucky man today. Damaged, but not down & out. Still have left hand."

Norman, 59, told the Associated Press he was cutting tree branches at his home in South Florida when the accident happened. He said he suffered a cut near his wrist when the weight of a branch pulled his hand toward the chainsaw. Norman said he was told by doctors that the blade nearly cut an artery.

"Thank God the blade wasn't running full speed or it would have taken my hand off," Norman told the Associated Press. "I handled everything as calmly as I could. There is no major damage. There is nerve damage, but no muscular damage. They fixed me up and here I am."

On Sunday, Norman posted another photo of himself in much better spirits, thanking his followers for their support in the wake of his injury:

"Thank u all for your concern & good wishes. All well the morning after the accident. Here I am at the scene of the crime....w/my new fashion statement!"
