While quarterback Cody Kessler took the majority of snaps with the first-team offense during USC’s scrimmage Thursday at the Coliseum, Max Wittek got only one series with the starters.

But Wittek, who is competing with Kessler for the starting job, said he was not frustrated.

“We just take advantage of all the reps we get, whether that’s with the ones, twos or even threes,” Wittek said. “A lot of times, the coaches want to see us with those different groups to see how we manage the game and help the people around us.

“We just make the most of all the opportunities we do get.”

Wittek played well Thursday, completing 13 of 20 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yard scoring play to receiver Nelson Agholor.

Kessler completed 12 of 16 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Coach Lane Kiffin said Wittek would start the next scrimmage.

The Trojans are set to open their season Aug. 29 at Hawaii.
