Former USC linebacker Rey Maualuga helped ruin Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel's first NFL start on Sunday.

Maualuga flashed Manziel's infamous "money" sign in the rookie quarterback's face after deflecting a pass in the Bengals' 30-0 shutout of the Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Maualuga, a sixth-year pro, drew a personal foul for taunting.

After the game, Maualuga apologized on Twitter for the penalty. "I put my teammates in a bad situation, and I was selfish for that penalty," wrote Maualuga, who also had a tackle for a loss. "I let my emotions get the best of me. Great team effort today!"

Manziel completed 10 of 18 passes for 80 yards, with two interceptions. He was sacked three times.

Eagles lose again

Quarterback Mark Sanchez led the Philadelphia Eagles on a comeback bid that eventually fell short in a 38-27 defeat by the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field.

Sanchez completed 17 of 28 passes for 252 yards, with two interceptions.

The Eagles are 3-3 since Sanchez replaced injured Nick Foles as the starter. Sanchez has passed for 10 touchdowns, with nine interceptions.

Coach Chip Kelly announced Monday that Foles' injury has not healed and that he would remain sidelined this week.

Redd makes contributions

Former USC tailback Silas Redd has started to make an impact for the Washington Redskins.

The rookie caught three passes for 62 yards in a 24-13 loss to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

Redd has rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown in 15 carries. He has eight receptions for 107 yards.

Giants linebacker Devon Kennard, Redd's former USC teammate, made two tackles for losses and deflected a pass.

Bills upset Packers

Robert Woods and Nickell Robey both contributed in the Buffalo Bills' 21-13 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Woods caught two passes for 22 yards.

Robey deflected a pass.

Packers linebacker Clay Matthews recorded two sacks.
