California: 5 ski resorts where beginners can find January deals

Don’t know how to ski but want to learn? You’re in luck. January is Learn a Snowsport Month, and some California ski resorts are toasting first-timers with lessons for as low as $49. Here are five worth checking out.

Alpine Meadows in Tahoe City: The “Learn to Ski & Ride Special” costs $49 for adults and children at least 8 years old. It includes a beginner lift ticket, equipment rental and a two-and-a-half hour lesson. Discounted lessons are offered Tuesdays through Thursdays only through the end of January. Squaw Valley in Olympic Valley: The resort that was the 1960 Winter Olympics site is offering “2-for-1 Specialty Clinics” for $49. Homewood Mountain Ski Resort in Homewood: The resort’s “Learn to Ski/Ride” offer costs $49 for adults and children 13 and older. It includes a half-day lesson and equipment rentals and lift tickets that are good all day. It’s available Sundays to Fridays (non-holiday weekends) until the end of the season. Bear Mountain/Snow Summit in Big Bear Lake: Newcomers receive free equipment rental with a beginner lesson package daily until the end of January.
