Perfect for your next road trip: Bruce Springsteen’s 1957 Chevy convertible, now on Ebay

If you’re scrolling through Ebay deals, don’t be surprised to see a vintage Chevy convertible owned by The Boss for sale.

Bruce Springsteen bought the yellow car with flames on the hood for $2,000 on May 21, 1975, according to the Ebay listing. Ninety-one bids as of Thursday evening raised the price to $219,900.

The auction ends Monday evening. It’s hard to know how high the price will go. The listing says the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 Convertible was “appraised and insured for $850,000” while on display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Why Ebay?

“I don’t want this to go to corporate America,” seller Michael Crane says in explaining why he didn’t use an auction house. “I want it to go to a really big Bruce fan.”

Crane, described as a superfan, Springsteen historian and creator of the all-Bruce website Blindedbythelight.com, says he’s ready to part with the car that he has owned for 10 years. And yes, he bought it on Ebay too.

The Chevy has been on display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio in 2010 and the annex in New York City in 2008-09. It comes with the original registration from the state of New Jersey, temporary ID card and car insurance.

Springsteen writes in a 1999 memoir called “Songs: Bruce Springsteen”: “In ‘70’s New Jersey, the car was still a powerful image. That summer I bought my first set of wheels for two thousand dollars. It was a ‘57 Chevy with dual, four-barrel carbs, a Hurst on the floor and orange flames spread across the hood.”

A few years back, Crane says he waited for Springsteen after a performance at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J., and said:

“‘I’ve got your car’ … He turns around, looks at the car and his bottom lip dropped. Looking for the Hurst shifter on the floor, he says, ‘This is my car, this really is my car.’ ”

Crane says he’s selling the classic vehicle because, well, being a superfan takes its toll. “I’m 46 years old, I’m not a kid anymore,” he says. “I’m exhausted and tired, and have done it [been a big Springsteen fan] for a long time.”
