The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea serves as home base for participants.

Photographer and cinematographer Robert Caplin, whose work has appeared in the New York Times, National Geographic and other publications, and sports and portrait photographer Peter Lockley of Denver are the pros who will be leading the workshops.

Participants learn about composition, exposure, lighting, editing and printing -- all amid the backdrop of Maui.

Daily workshops will be timed to utilize natural light. Photo locations will include picturesque settings such as a secluded bamboo forest and a black sand beach as well as a sail on a catamaran to capture the perfect sunset.

Robert Letson, a participant in the 2015 class, said that while he had been to Maui 20 times, the photo expedition took him to places he had never seen.

Pricing starts at $6,990 per person. It includes all workshop fees and a five-night stay in an ocean-view room at the Four Seasons. Up to three people can stay in the same room, with second and third workshop participants paying $3,000 each.

In addition, representatives from Canon will demonstrate $250,000 worth of the latest photographic gear.
