Roaring aside, car was no beast

Halfway through Dan Neil’s piece on his driving a “Formula One” race car [“Bright Lights, Big Engines,” April 1], readers find that he actually drove a heavily modified race car. Certain unmodified street cars (Dodge Viper, Chevrolet Corvette Z06) could achieve about the same performance.

The ultralight weight of and lack of sound-deadening on Neil’s car surely made for a thrilling experience, but the paper misled its readers by promoting the article during the week and with the headlines and photo captions on the story itself.

Or was the piece an April Fool joke on us all?

Peru music scene worth perusing

I greatly enjoyed Agustin Gurza’s article on music in Lima [“Music Helps Lima to Mend,” March 25]. I’m always pleased to see Peru portrayed as a place with more happening than the usual emphasis on folkloric color.

Lima’s happening music scene richly deserves the attention you bestowed.

Discontent over the content

I’ve been reading this section for more than 35 years. It has always been fun and informative and loaded with numerous tips, airline fares, offbeat locations and personal info. Suddenly it’s all ads and one focused format. This is not at all individualistic for a city like L.A.
