Mexico and Caribbean: Up to 40% off rooms at 9 Marriott resorts

Splash down in the ocean or the pool at nine Marriott beach resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean this summer. Room rates are being trimmed up to 40% for stays through the end of September at sites that include Cancun and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico and Aruba, Grand Cayman and St. Kitts in the Caribbean.

The deal: The SPF 40% Off sale varies by the hotel. In a check of rate rules for the selected resorts, I found that discounts run from 25% to 40% off the leisure rate. Use the promotion code “LLF” when making a reservation.

When: The offer is good for stays through Sept. 30, but you must book by April 30. Some blackout dates apply.

Tested: I checked the website and found the following room rates for a May 20-23 visit:

--$83 plus tax a night at CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa (40% off);

--$112 plus tax a night at CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resort (25% off); and

--$143 plus tax a night at Curacao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino (40 % off).

These are cheap rates for staying at such tony resorts. However, I know Mexico remains a question mark for many travelers; violence in some areas of the country, including some that draw tourists, has discouraged visitors. This State Department warning issued last September, which remains in effect, details areas that travelers should avoid.
