Moscow: What to do if you are scheduled to fly to Domodedovo International Airport

Domodedovo International Airport, the busiest of Moscow’s three airports, reopened to flights Monday afternoon after a powerful bomb blast killed 35 and wounded more than 130. Media reports say officials suspect the blast was the work of a suicide bomber.

If you are traveling to Moscow in the next few days, check Domodedovo’s arrivals and departures to see the status of flights. The list currently shows some cancellations, delays and changed gates for arrivals, but overall the airport appears to be handling flights well despite the tragedy. Also, Moscow-bound travelers should monitor the situation closely and call their airline or check the airline website for up-to-date information. The airport opened an office in one of its terminals to extend psychological and medical treatment to any passengers in need of help, according to the airport’s website. Security was tightened at all Moscow-area airports after the bombing.

Lufthansa reported Monday on its website that the temporary closure caused three flights on the way to Moscow to divert to another destination but that one plane had landed after Domodedovo reopened. A Singapore Airlines spokesman said there had been no change in that airline’s daily flight from Houston that transits through Moscow on the way to Singapore. And Delta says on its website that flights to another Moscow-area airport, Sheremetyevo International Airport, were and continue to be unaffected by the situation at Domodedovo.
