Carmageddon: LAX website with info for travelers suffers outage [Updated]

If you’re trying to get information from the website of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) about how to cope with the “Carmageddon” 405 Freeway closure this weekend, be patient.

[Updated at 3:30 p.m. July 14: LAX spokeswoman Katherine Alvarado says via email that the website was down because the database connection to the server was temporarily lost.]

The LAX website, www.lawa.org, which among other information offers tips for travelers trying to get to and from the airport, was down Thursday morning with no explanation for the outage. Instead of information, I got “server error” and “runtime error” messages.

LAX spokeswoman Katherine Alvarado said she didn’t know why the website was down and when it would be back up. So what should travelers do? Alvarado said they should check the website (whenever it comes to life); dial LAX radio 530-AM when they are near the airport; or call (310) 646-5252 and follow the prompts.

From my own experience, I have found the LAX website to be down once or twice a month when I have checked flight schedules or sought other information.
