Gray Line New York, best known for bus tours, is launching a discount card for Big Apple visitors that offers savings for up to four people on restaurants, attractions, stores and even some theater tickets. The card is good for 30 days from the first day you use it and costs $24.99 plus tax.

The deal: The Gray Line New York Eat and Play Card covers discounts at more than 100 sites in the city. For example, you receive 10% to 20% off at some McDonald’s outlets (discount varies by location) or 20% off more upscale dining at Delmonico’s in Little Italy. Other deals include 20% off the Radio City Stage Door Tour and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! and 10% off purchases at places such as the LEGO store and Macy’s Herald Square.

When: The discount card goes into effect May 27.

Details: I’m not usually a fan of coupon books or discount cards because they often don’t match my tastes and I never feel like I get my money’s worth. This card might be the exception. Savings on the high price of food alone might make it worthwhile, particularly for families. I like the fact that you can preview a full list of discounts and locations before you buy and that the card is good for longer than a day or two.

I also like the idea of, say, planning a day at Central Park that saves me 10% on the zoo admission and 30% on bicycle rentals -- for four people. You can purchase the card online now and pick it up when you arrive or buy it in New York at the Gray Line New York visitor centers, but it doesn’t go into effect until May 27.

Note: When I called the company’s phone number to inquire about the card Friday, the staffer who answered wasn’t aware of the card. So I contacted a company spokeswoman, who said in an email that the phone information would be updated this week.
