From Tumi, carry-on luggage that grows

The creative engineers at Tumi like to put their own spin on design and function in their swank lines of luggage. The Dror International Expandable Carry-On, part of a new 11-piece collection (each sold separately), is an innovative case in point.

The hard-sided wheeled carry-on expands from a depth of 9 inches to 14 inches -- but not by the use of anything as mundane as zippers. The bag’s two-stage girth spurt comes when you pull up on the two levels of interior pockets.

From the outside, the expanded bag has a kind of accordion look, but that would be an accordion with rich leather trim and hand-milled brass clasps, with a monopod telescoping handle pulling the whole thing together.

The bag is fully lined with plenty of internal zipper pockets. It comes in one color only -- a luscious onyx, just like the $195 Travel Kit for toiletries, the $595 backpack and the other eight top Dror bags.
