Virgin Vacations is cutting the price of two Danube River cruises by $1,000 per person for fall sailings.

The October and November itineraries travel from Germany to Hungary while following the European river for a sampling of cities and towns.

The deal: Discounts apply to the 11-day Nov. 14 tour and cruise from Budapest, Hungary to Nuremberg, Germany. Participants spend two nights in Budapest before boarding the Sound of Music for seven nights. The ship has just 64 cabins, and the price includes meals, drinks and shore excursions.

Cruise stops include Bratislava, capital of Slovakia; Vienna and the Austrian towns of Durnstein and Melk; and the Bavarian town of Regensburg in Germany.

The discount is also good on the Oct. 23 itinerary (14 days, beginning in Prague, then cruising from Nuremberg to Budapest). To get the deal, use the code “VNB14DRC13” when making a reservation. Note that the price is based on double occupancy.

When: The discount applies to Oct. 23 and Nov. 14 trips, subject to availability.

Tested: For the Nov. 14 cruise, I checked online and found availability for a Cabin C class for $3,358 for two, or $1,679 each (that’s with the $1,000 per person discount). On the Oct. 23 cruise, I found Cabin A class going for $4,998 for two, or $2,499 each, with the discount.
