At the peak of the fire, officials say, about 170 firefighters were helping to fight the flames.

A fire broke out Tuesday night at a six-story building west of downtown Los Angeles, authorities said. The fire erupted about 7:45 p.m. at a corner of the fifth floor of an office building in the 1500 block of West Olympic Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Smoke billows from the office building that caught fire Tuesday. By 8:45 p.m., the fire was “still smoldering but the bulk of the flames have been knocked down,” Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

The building in the Westlake neighborhood has several tenants, according to public records, including a law firm, accounting firm, ad agency, court reporting service and chiropractic office.
