New York Auto Show: Infiniti to bring hybrid version of its QX60
The Infiniti family of hybrids is growing by one.
The automaker announced Friday that it will be bringing to the New York Auto Show a hybrid version of its QX60 seven-passenger crossover.
If the name sounds foreign, remember that Infiniti recently changed the nomenclature of its entire lineup; the QX60 was formerly known as the JX35. Don’t ask us, we’re just the messenger.
When the QX60 hybrid goes on sale this summer, it will be the third hybrid model Infiniti sells. The others are the all-new Q50 hybrid, which debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, and the Q70 hybrid -- formerly known as the M hybrid.
The QX60 will have a 2.5-liter supercharged four-cylinder engine paired to a 15 kW electric motor. The motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery that sits under the foldable third-row seat. Infiniti says its packaging means no loss of interior or cargo room.
Total horsepower on the QX60 Hybrid is expected to be 250, compared to 265 on the gas QX60. It will be available in either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive variations, and will come with a Continuously Variable Transmission.
Infiniti said this hybrid crossover is expected to get 26 mpg in combined driving, making it the most fuel-efficient model in its large luxury SUV segment. Pricing is expected to be about $3,000 higher than the QX60’s $42,000 base price.
