Ameriprise to settle Massachusetts probe

Ameriprise Financial Inc. agreed to pay $25,000 to settle an investigation by Massachusetts into whether customers’ privacy was breached when a laptop computer containing personal data was stolen from an employee.
The financial planning company also must hire a consultant to review policies and offer recommendations within six months, according to the agreement. Minneapolis-based Ameriprise must implement the changes within three months after that.
