Cadbury unveils new chocolate bar on Google+

British confectioner Cadbury unveiled its latest candy bar on social network Google+.

“Remember this moment: the first time Cadbury revealed a new product on Google+,” the candy maker wrote on its page. “The delicious new Dairy Milk Bubbly, available with milk or white bubbles, will be the first of many we hope!”

Cadbury, which is owned by Kraft Foods Inc., didn’t specify whether it meant more product announcements on Google+ or just more sweet inventions that look like chocolate bubbles stuck together.

Regardless, it’s a good sign for Google+ that companies have enough confidence in it to unveil new products through its social media microphone. Created by Google Inc. as an alternative to Facebook, Google+ is barely 6 months old and is rumored to have more than 60 million members.

Companies and brands were not allowed to create Google+ pages until November, when the social network launched business pages. Previously, if a businesses tried to join Google+ by creating a regular page, the social network would just terminate that account.

Google, which has been working to integrate its social network into its search function, has added a feature called Direct Connect. People who type a plus sign in front of a company’s name -- such as +Toyota or +Pepsi -- into the search field will be directed to that business’s Google+ page. (Some but not all companies are set up with Direct Connect.)
