High court healthcare ruling removes ‘cloud,’ California hospitals say

Share

California’s main hospital trade group said the Supreme Court’s endorsement of the Affordable Care Act takes away a “cloud” hanging over healthcare and provides some financial stability going forward.

“This is a great day in our opinion because it sets the stage for moving forward without a cloud over where we are going,” said Duane Dauner, chief executive of the California Hospital Assn.

Leading up to the court ruling, California hospitals were concerned about a split decision that would have struck down the mandate for people to purchase insurance but left intact billions of dollars in federal funding cuts.

Dauner said the increase in insured patients seeking care at hospitals will help offset some of those funding cuts. “This will improve the economic stability for all stakeholders,” he said.
