Apple expands education content to Latin America, Europe and Asia

The competition to get iPads and laptops into classrooms has been heating up over the last year.

To make the iPad attractive to more educators, Apple has announced it will make its educational content even more widely available.

On Tuesday, the company said its educational content and services would now be available in Latin America, Europe and Asia. These expanded offerings include iBooks Textbooks and iTunes U Course Manager.

“The incredible content and tools available for iPad provide teachers with new ways to customize learning unlike ever before,” Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet software and services, said in a news release. “We can’t wait to see how teachers in even more countries will create their new lesson plans with interactive textbooks, apps and rich digital content.”

IBooks Textbooks are multimedia books available for the iPad. The company says there are 25,000 titles available.

ITunes U Course Manager is a free Web-based service that that lets teachers share coursework and documents through the iTunes U app with students and other users outside their school.

IBooks Textbooks will be available in 51 countries. The course manager app will be available in 70 countries.
