A user on Reddit made it possible for hundreds if not thousands to virtually cut in line for pre-sale tickets to the 2015 edition of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday.
An advance batch of tickets for both weekends of the 2015 music festival went on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Many waited for more than an hour only to find that the tickets quickly sold out.
At the same time, some users did not have to wait in line at all thanks to a link posted on Reddit by a user named "rsy510." That link allowed others to go straight to the purchase page for the first weekend of Coachella 2015. Later, another user posted a direct link to the purchase page for Weekend 2 in the same thread started by rsy510.
As a result, rsy510 was held as a hero among his Reddit peers.
"Are you going to set up a booth so we can shake your hand? Many things are possible," one user said.
"My brother and I thank you. Stop by our campsite for copious drugs and beer," another Reddit user posted.
"DUDE, for real, post of the year. Can we all agree on a meetup place on April 10th to shower this man with beer?" another user said.
At the same time, some are blaming rsy510 for causing them to wait in line for so long, often in vain.
"Someone on Reddit had a link to bypass the @coachella standby page. Now tickets are sold out. #fail," a Twitter user said.
"If you didn't get your Coachella tickets, you can thank this guy #reddit," another Twitter user said with a link to rsy510's Reddit post.
"Well @coachella I waited on standby for 2hrs & prayed I would get tickets, unfortunately when I finally got thru they were all gone!" said another user on Twitter.
In the comments on his post, rsy510 called his actions "immoral" but said that he has had terrible experiences trying to get tickets to past Coachella festivals.
"Being at the losing end of purchasing tickets for the past couple years, I'm going to share this with other people," rsy510 said. "These bypass links have probably been going on for years. I've definitely had my share of waiting in line for an hour only leading me to purchase tickets from a scalper for above face value."
Goldenvoice, the promoter behind the music festival, could not be reached for comment.
