Angelina Jolie makes waves in Ecuador with Brad Pitt and the kids

Share

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are in Ecuador with the kids in the wake of their engagement news, but as usual it’s something of a working vacation for Jolie, who last week was promoted from goodwill ambassador to special envoy in her continuing gig with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

It was destination Galapagos Islands for the six kids and their folks, with Mom making time to visit a refugee settlement as well.

Over the weekend, Jolie met with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino in the capital city, Quito, and also showed up at Providencia, a settlement in the rain forest near the banks of the San Miguel River, which forms Ecuador’s border with Colombia. The community, upriver from the town of Barranca Bermeja, is populated primarily by Colombian refugees who, according to the UNHCR, have been living there for nearly two decades.

Among those Jolie met after a walk through the jungle to her destination were farmers participating in a UNHCR-sponsored agricultural project aimed at encouraging the group’s self-sufficiency and improving nutrition.

On the lighter side of things, the family’s private jet had touched down at Ecuador’s Baltra airport Tuesday as the clan embarked on a stay that included a local bus tour before they all hopped a ferry to the Galapagos.

The gang was photographed Friday enjoying a day at the beach before Mom headed off to do her U.N. work, and Jolie and Pitt were snapped returning to the Galapagos by boat Monday.
