Britney Spears splits with David Lucado after cheating video surfaces

Britney Spears and boyfriend David Lucado have broken up, and it looks as if Brit’s dad Jamie Spears did some key damage control along the way.

“Ahhhh the single life!,” Spears tweeted Thursday afternoon, taking a minimalist approach to acknowledging the split with her boyfriend of 18 months, whom she started dating shortly after she and Jason Trawick called off their engagement.

Later the 32-year-old mother of two posted an Instagram video referring to her extremely bad day -- one that apparently was made worse by viewing recently shot video of Lucado dancing and making out with another woman.

So, why hasn’t the world seen that same video by now? It was Dad to the rescue.

Turns out that Jamie Spears, Britney’s conservator for the past six years, heard the footage was for sale and, to save his daughter the public embarrassment, quickly snapped it up, TMZ reported Friday. Paid some big bucks too.

When the two started dating, Jamie had a background check run on Virginia lawyer Lucado, according to Britney, so his protective nature is not exactly a new thing.

The elder Spears showed the younger Spears what had been going on, and she cut Lucado off, the website said.

Well, Britney did get a whole new album out of her split with Trawick. Maybe this split will have a silver lining as well.
