Rebecca Black follows up ‘Friday’ with — get this — ‘Saturday’

Share

Rebecca Black is back to stake her claim to another day of the week: “Saturday.”

The “Friday” singer returns, just a few years older and a bit more mature -- well, for a high-schooler -- with a hard-partying anthem that shows her obvious graduation from the middle-school nostalgia of “Friday.”

“Friday,” you’ll recall, is that ridiculous auto-tuned anthem we couln’t help but recall for a good portion of 2011 any time someone said “It’s Friday.” The video has has accumulated more than 61.9 million views on YouTube and, like any viral sensation, Black had to follow it up.

“IT IS HERE. YES. THE OFFICIAL SEQUEL TO FRIDAY. I PRESENT TO YOU, SATURDAY,” Black tweeted Saturday.

Black, now 16 and with a few “Funny Or Die” spoofs, “Wrecking Ball” and “Stay” parodies under her belt, actually sings on the track and by Monday afternoon had already racked up 10 million views for the new video.

The singer pairs with YouTube star Dave Days and picks up where “Friday” seemingly left off: The morning after. That is, if the morning after were two years later.

Here, Black wakes up on a couch at 2 p.m. after an all-night rager (presumably on Friday.) She’s a total mess but is somehow even more excited about another party set to take place on Saturday night.

Cue the quintessential, hipster-style high school party complete with red cups, blow-up doll, dinosaur-riding and a sliding “Risky Business” reference among the partygoers. (Partyin’, partyin’, yeah! Fun, fun, fun, lookin’ forward to the weekend!)

There’s that cereal bowl again, “fun fun fun” being tagged with a marker all over a sleeping reveler’s face, convertible-car rides and writing “so excited” in the sand.

Unfortunately, this time Black doesn’t contemplate which seat to take in the car.

“I don’t want this Saturday to end,” she sings against the ever-changing backdrop of beach fireworks, Silly String fights, dance-offs and someone getting arrested.

“Yesterday was Friday / Today is Saturday / We’re gonna live like there’s no tomorrow / Wouldn’t have it any other way,” she asserts.

(So does that mean we shouldn’t expect “Sunday”?)

There’s also a nod to Miley Cyrus’ white “Wrecking Ball” ensemble and a few instances where we believe we might have clicked onto a Taylor Swift video.

At the end, the only prominent African-American in the video gets arrested, which has drawn accusations of racism against Black. It’s unclear who it is or why he’s getting arrested, and, unlike Ms. Black, we just want it all to end.
