Shirt mocking Taylor Swift is out of Abercrombie stores

Share

Don’t trifle with fans of Taylor Swift. That seems to be the message delievered to Abercrombie & Fitch after the company offered T-shirts bearing the message “# more boyfriends than t.s.,” a nod to the singer’s much-talked-about dating history.

Cutting to the chase, the shirt — viewable here — is no longer in A&F stores, the retailer says.

Whether the shirt was pulled or simply faded away appears to be a matter of debate, however. An A&F rep told Buzzfeed on Friday that the company “set the shirt at the end of February, marked it down in the middle of March and it is no longer available.”

So, yanked or just clearance?

Either way, the Swifties definitely mobilized in protest of the garment — something Abercrombie likely didn’t welcome after backlash in May over quotes surfaced in which its CEO disparaged consumers needing XL or XXL sizes, saying they weren’t the “cool kids” and that the retailer didn’t want them as customers. That led to the launch of an anti-bullying campaign by the retailer this month.

One fan launched a petition on change.org, saying the shirt was “hurtful to Taylor Swift and Swifties everywhere!” The petition’s goal was 200 signatures, a number it hadn’t yet reached on Friday — but mission accomplished anyway? Another made a YouTube video posted on Tuesday (and viewable above) that gave out the number for Abercrombie’s public relations department and urged fans to weigh in. As of Friday, that video had been viewed almost 20,000 times.

“Hey #swifties we no longer sell the tshirt,” the Abercrombie Twitter account said Tuesday. “We <3 Taylor’s music and think she’s awesome!”

Perhaps now the Swifties can turn their attention to John Mayer’s new song, “Paper Doll.” You know, the one that’s rumored to be about Taylor Swift.
