Quick Takes: Competition for Charlie Sheen’s ‘internship’

How bad is the current job market? At least 74,040 people would like to work for Charlie Sheen.

Internships.com said Wednesday that’s how many people have applied for Sheen’s internship position since he posted it Monday. The actor said he would pay someone to help leverage his social media network this summer.

The application wasn’t exactly extensive: It limited applicants to 75 characters or fewer.

50 Cent donates Kadafi payment

50 Cent is the latest artist to make a donation to charity after it was revealed he performed at an event linked to the clan of Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi.

A statement released Wednesday said the rapper, who has his own G-Unity Foundation, will be making a donation to UNICEF to help with that organization’s relief efforts during the turmoil in Libya.

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, performed at a private event during the 2005 Venice Film Festival that was later linked to the Kadafi clan.

Kadafi is battling rebels who are revolting against

his rule and faces an investigation for possible war crimes.

Last week, Beyoncé, Usher, Mariah Carey and Nelly Furtado announced donations to charity in the wake of their participation in private concerts connected to the Kadafis.

See Bonnaroo without camping

You won’t need to get your feet muddy to experience this year’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

Music video website Vevo announced Wednesday that it will stream live and on-demand performances from the annual Manchester, Tenn., festival, which takes place June 9-12 and will feature performances by Eminem, Arcade Fire and Widespread Panic.

The live stream will be available on Vevo.com and on Vevo mobile apps. On-demand footage will also be available from syndication partners, including YouTube.

She’ll likely have to dye her hair

Julianne Moore playing Sarah Palin in HBO’s “Game Change”? You betcha.

The network said Wednesday that the actress had been cast in the film, which is based on the bestselling book by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin. The book follows the 2008 presidential campaign

from the primaries to the conventions to the general election.

The McCain role has not yet been cast.

“Game Change” will be directed by Jay Roach and written by Danny Strong, who collaborated on HBO’s “Recount.”

Moore, who starred in the Oscar-nominated “The Kids Are All Right,” is no stranger to television: She appeared on “As the World Turns” in the 1980s and more recently made several appearances on NBC’s “30 Rock.”

Stylish charity from Mandela

The Nelson Mandela Foundation is launching an international fashion clothing line.

Money raised from the project will help sustain the foundation’s charitable gifts even as it boosts South Africa’s troubled textile and clothing industry.

The line will be called 46664 Apparel — named after Mandela’s Robben Island prison number. The anti-apartheid icon spent 27 years in prisons before becoming South Africa’s first black president in 1994.

The preppy-looking men’s and classic-style women’s clothes will be available in South Africa in August and probably will hit the United States next year.

Lilith Fair over, McLachlan says

Despite assurances last summer that Lilith would return — even as shows were being canceled because of poor ticket sales — Sarah McLachlan now says she will not revive her all-female music festival, the Toronto Globe and Mail reports.

“It’s done,” McLachlan told the newspaper.

“It lived in a time and place, and it probably should have stayed there,” said the singer, who headlined and helped organize the tour last summer and its earlier incarnations in the ‘90s. “And that’s OK. I learned that. And I’m just excited about looking forward and thinking of carrying forth the ideas from Lilith and maybe doing something new and different.”
