Leading men: 'The under-6ft. club'

Actors on the silver screen look larger than life. But for every actor 6 feet and over, including Gary Cooper, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Daniel Day-Lewis and Clint Eastwood, there have been a slew of leading men under 6 feet. And in some cases, way under 6 feet.

Take James McAvoy, the talented 29-year-old Scottish actor from “Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “Atonement” and the new action flick “Wanted,” in which he plays a meek office worker who becomes an assassin. He is all of 5-7.

When he first auditioned for the role two years ago, McAvoy was rejected by the studio because they wanted a more conventional leading man. McAvoy has said that he was considered the “runt of the litter,” but ultimately won the job because “they wanted someone geeky.” Of course, there are those who consider McAvoy an adorably talented “geeky” guy.
