‘Sharknado 2’ stars Ian Ziering, Tara Reid envision ‘20’ sequels

Ian Ziering and Tara Reid have issued a warning to all TV viewers: They foresee many more installments in the “Sharknado” franchise.

“I’m going to keep doing this until I get eaten,” Ziering told the Los Angeles Times on Monday ahead of a screening of Syfy’s “Sharknado 2” for the media at the Beverly Hilton. “I see about 20 more installments in our future.”

The sequel to last summer’s cheesy social media sensation sets its campy sights in New York City, where once again a freakish storm sends thousands of munching sharks airborne. Not to fear, Ziering’s shark warrior, Fin Shepard, is ready for the battle.

“Have you seen what I can do with a chain saw?” the “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum said at a poolside fete where inflatable sharks floated through the air. “I’ve got this.”

Few could have predicted the bite “Sharknado” would have when it premiered last summer. The low-budget film with the loony plot, directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, premiered to a soft 1.4 million viewers. But it chomped its way through social media, building up viewership in subsequent airings in the week.

“It really showed the line between A and B movie gets blurred when the fan appreciation out-distances anything that the major studios have brought to market last year,” Ziering said.

The follow-up camp fest features a pack of cameo appearances, including by Kelly Ripa, Michael Strahan, Vivica A. Fox, Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick and “Today” personalities Matt Lauer and Al Roker.

Reid, after being cornered for a photo near the pool by Fox, said she hopes more people embrace the camp the second time around. Something the “American Pie” actress said she knew she had to do early on because, how could you not?

“I mean, there’s a tornado of sharks,” Reid said. “It wasn’t like I was expecting an Oscar for this. But it was fun. It’s ‘Sharknado’! You have to just go with it. Who was talking about me before this?”

“Sharknado 2” hit the TV waters on Wednesday, on the heels of a recent actual shark attack in Manhattan Beach that initially had some jokingly suggesting a “Sharknado” publicity stunt was in play.

“Everyone thought that was us at first,” Ziering acknowledged. “We hope the guy is OK, obviously. I’m happy to give him some shark fighting lessons before he gets back in the water.”
