Sushi bar inspires foes and fans

Thank you for your insightful review of Sushi Nozawa (“Sit. Eat. Pay.” by S. Irene Virbila, Aug. 18). It’s high time someone revealed Mr. Nozawa for the cold fish that he is. My husband and I vowed never to set foot in the place again after we witnessed him busting someone for daring to order. After the hapless ordering couple left the premises, I turned to my husband and said: “Sit down, shut the #@%* up, pay and leave -- I guess that’s the Nozawa mantra.” So when I saw the title of your review I howled with laughter.

I took a Japanese friend to Sushi Nozawa, thinking it was just another neighborhood sushi joint. When she realized there were no prices on the menu she insisted we leave, saying to the waiter (in Japanese), “What do you think this is, the Ginza, and we are tourists?”

MY husband and I were dismayed to read this overly critical, mean-spirited review of an excellent restaurant with a dedicated chef. The author was already aware of Chef Nozawa’s “sushi Nazi” personality, so why would she expect to be treated any differently? Her comments alleging the mediocre fish quality are unfair, as quality can vary daily depending on what’s available at the fish market. We look forward to our next meal at Sushi Nozawa.
