The greenest house in L.A.?( Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times )
Designer Grit Leipert and architect Frank Pasker relax in the kitchen of their new three-story Mount Washington house, where every room connects to the natural landscape on at least two sides via doors or large expanses of glass. The home celebrates its environment in other ways: It has the first permitted gray water system in Los Angeles since California adopted new rules for recycling household waste water as landscape irrigation. An array of other features include a 1,500-gallon cistern to store rainwater, exterior panels made of recycled CDs, insulation made of recycled glass and a light-reflecting roof.
