Why you can’t buy ‘stuff’ at Joymode’s holiday pop-up shop in Silver Lake

Share

Don’t expect to leave the Joymode pop-up shop in Silver Lake with bags.

The 2-month-old company believes that nobody needs more things — but everyone needs things to make memorable experiences.

“A lot of things you need for a specific moment,” said Joe Fernandez, chief executive and co-founder of Joymode. “Our hope is to let you have that moment and let us worry about ‘the stuff.’”

The pop-up, open through December, is a microcosm of the Joymode warehouse in downtown Los Angeles from which the company delivers party and activity gear to most parts of the city.

Planning an outdoor movie night? Joymode drops off lawn chairs, blankets, fire pit, projector, 12-foot screen and retro popcorn machine. Hitting the trails? The camping bundle includes tent, sleeping pad, camp stove, lantern and enamel plates. Throw a Mexican-themed party and they will deliver a frozen margarita machine, quesadilla maker, tortilla press and heated chip-and-dip tray.

Most bundles are designed to be kept from a Thursday to a Monday. Annual memberships are $99 — buy one at the pop-up and the first experience is free. After that, prices start at $39 for the Fiesta Feast and top out at about $250 for the Ultimate Office Party package, which includes all you need for beer pong, karaoke and games of giant Jenga. Delivery and pickup is included.
