LOS ANGELES, Calif. - February 1, 2010 - This year, the Oscar® nominees won't be the only people hoping to clean-up on Hollywood's "Super Sunday." The Envelope , the award season insider from the Los Angeles Times, is debuting a new iPhone app that pits movie lovers against their friends, family and some of the entertainment industry's leading voices as they test their predictive skills and place their bets on who will take home the golden hardware.

"With our new app we're bringing the heartbeat of the Oscar® race to millions of iPhone users and extending The Envelope into addictive and fun new digital territory," said Lisa Fung, The Times' Online Arts & Entertainment Editor.

Players can compete for bragging rights against the likes of The Times' film critics Kenneth Turan and Betsy Sharkey, entertainment reporters Susan King, Mark Olsen, Paul Gaita and Steven Zeitchik, Gold Derby blogger Tom O'Neill and Notes on a Season blogger Pete Hammond, as well as Entertainment Weekly's Dave Karger, Rolling Stone's Peter Travers, Indie Wire's Anne Thompson and Hollywood Elsewhere's Jeffrey Wells.

The free Envelope app will be available for download from iTunes moments after the Academy Award® nominations are announced in the wee hours of February 2. Users are given a virtual bank of $10,000 to wager on who they think will win. The "stock prices" for a nominated actor, director, or movie adjust based on the volume of buying and selling" by the players. A real-time news feed from The Envelope keeps players in the know and helps them make smart "investments" to compete for the biggest, highest value Oscar® portfolio.

And, of course, we'll all find out who wins on March 7.
