Earthquake: 3.4 quake strikes near Coalinga, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 3.4 earthquake was reported Friday morning 20 miles from Coalinga, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 11:17 a.m. PDT at a depth of 5.6 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 21 miles from King City, Calif., 29 miles from Greenfield, Calif., 35 miles from Avenal, Calif., and 171 miles from Sacramento.

In the past 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
