Earthquake: 4.1 quake strikes near Avalon, Calif.
A shallow magnitude 4.1 earthquake was reported Monday morning 42 miles from Avalon, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 12:42 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 6.8 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 67 miles from Rancho Palos Verdes, 68 miles from San Pedro and 69 miles from Newport Beach.
In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
