5 people injured in 2-car collision during Santa Ana police pursuit
A couple suspected of fleeing police in a vehicle in Santa Ana smashed into a car carrying four family members, including two young boys who were injured in the crash, authorities said Wednesday night.
Among the five people injured in the collision were the 4-year-old and 10-year-old brothers. The younger boy had light trauma injuries and the older one had moderate injures, said Division Chief Kris Concepcion of the Orange County Fire Authority.
Their parents received minor injuries and the man driving the vehicle that was being pursued suffered broken bones in his lower extremities, Concepcion said.
The incident began after the man and a woman were stopped by police on Cedar Street near Edinger Avenue. It was unclear why the stop was made, the Santa Ana Police Department said.
“The officer was doing some type of investigation of the man and wife, and for some reason the suspect takes off,” Cpl. Anthony Bertagna told The Times.
The driver slammed into the family’s car and his vehicle overturned.
Police were at the scene Wednesday night trying to piece together what happened. No additional details were immediately available.
