Fire, propane explosion bring hazmat team to Topanga Canyon home
Los Angeles County firefighters and a hazardous material team responded to a house fire in Topanga Canyon where a 1,000-gallon propane tank exploded, fire officials said Saturday.
The fire at the one-story residence in the 20020 block of Sischo Drive was first reported about 10:40 pm Friday, said Bernard Peters, a county fire dispatcher.
Residents in the immediate area were evacuated for a brief time, Peters said, and the area was blocked off. The fire did not spread past the single property, and no injuries were reported.
Most firefighting units cleared out by 2 a.m., and one unit remains on the scene as a safety precaution. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
