A 19-year-old man was in custody Friday on suspicion of killing another man who may have been trying force his way into a Westminster mobile home.

The incident occurred about 11:15 p.m. Thursday when the 19-year-old called police to report an intruder trying to get in a residence in the 14300 block of Bushard Street.

Someone from inside the mobile home fired shots, which struck and gravely wounded an 18-year-old man, who left the scene.

Westminster police arrived to find the alleged shooter inside his residence and bullet holes in the door. Meanwhile, Santa Ana police were investigating the arrival of a fatally wounded shooting victim at Fountain Valley Hospital.

Officers were able to connect the two events, although “we’re still trying to put all the pieces together,” said Cpl. Phuong Pham of the Westminster Police Department.

At the time of the shooting, there were two people inside the mobile home. Neither was harmed.

“The person who called was the person we later arrested,” Pham said.

Investigators recovered a weapon at the scene and Pham said there were no other known suspects. The names of those involved have not been released.
