Adam Elmahrek, who exposed political corruption in Orange County municipalities while at the Voice of OC, has joined The Times’ metro staff.
He will be reporting on L.A. County government.
At the Voice of OC, a nonprofit investigative newsroom, Elmahrek uncovered a suspicious land swap between Santa Ana’s mayor and a municipal contractor.
In Anaheim, he revealed that an elected official was paid $24,000 in county funds for a report lifted from Wikipedia.
And in Lake Forest, he found a councilman with a penchant for offering bribes.
Elmahrek started his journalism career at the Voice of OC in 2010. He grew up in Mission Viejo and holds a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Fullerton.
