At the Voice of OC, a nonprofit investigative newsroom, Elmahrek uncovered a suspicious land swap between Santa Ana’s mayor and a municipal contractor.

In Anaheim, he revealed that an elected official was paid $24,000 in county funds for a report lifted from Wikipedia.

And in Lake Forest, he found a councilman with a penchant for offering bribes.

Elmahrek started his journalism career at the Voice of OC in 2010. He grew up in Mission Viejo and holds a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Fullerton.
