The body of a 2-year-old boy reported missing Sunday was discovered today in San Bernardino County, authorities said. His mother and her boyfriend -- who earlier had said the boy was abducted -- were arrested in connection with his death.

Belinda Magana, 23, was booked on suspicion of child abuse and being an accessory to murder.

Her 37-year-old boyfriend, Naresh Narine, was booked on suspicion of murder, torture and child abuse causing injury or death, said Rene Tarkington, a Corona police spokeswoman.

Magana had said the boy was last seen Sunday evening at Lincoln Park in Corona during a family gathering in celebration of Mother’s Day.

Neighborhood fliers and ground and air searches yielded nothing, and investigators became suspicious of the mother and her boyfriend.

“Early on in the investigation, things weren’t adding up,” Corona Police Lt. Mark Johnson said.

The boy’s body was found buried in the Lytle Creek area, about 35 miles north of Corona.
