The former lead singer for suburban Chicago punk rock band Mest was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of fatally stabbing a 25-year-old man during an argument in Studio City, police said.

Anthony Lovato, 26, was being held on $1-million bail pending an investigation into criminal homicide, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Lovato and another man were arguing in the parking structure of an apartment building when the victim allegedly punched Lovato, Lopez said.

Authorities said Lovato pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the unidentified victim numerous times.

When police arrived at the scene, in the 10900 block of Bluffside Drive shortly after 8 a.m., they found the victim lying wounded on the ground. He died a short time later at a hospital.
