Tracking the money: Final Numbers

Backers and foes of a ballot initiative to ban same-sex marriage raised more that $83 million, nearly triple what consultants forecast and the largest amount ever for an electoral fight over a social issue in California. Prop. 8 passed with 52% of the vote. Roll over the counties to see amounts raised, as well as the vote the last time a gay marriage ban was on the ballot, Prop. 22 in 2000.
