TIMES WIRE REPORTS

An Irish security company director was forced to steal $1.7 million from his own company and deliver it to an armed gang that had kidnapped his wife and daughter, police said.

A detective said the targeted man worked in Dublin at GLS, which offers armored-car protection for cash shipments. He would not give a name.

The detective said at least five masked men stormed into the family’s secluded country home and warned the man that his wife and adult daughter would be killed if he didn’t deliver as much cash as he could carry to a rural rendezvous point.

The women freed themselves after being tied up, but the man had handed over the cash before they reached authorities.
