Re “Regrets, he has a few,” Jan. 13

George W. Bush’s interpretation of the “burdens of the office” phrase says it all. He believes it’s pathetic for the president to feel sorry for himself when events occur on his watch.

“Burdens of the office” is not a reflection on the president’s ego. It’s a reflection of the president’s conscience.

After eight years, Bush’s attitude continues to be “why me?” -- why are these things happening to him?

He still doesn’t get it that these problems are happening to us. Because of him.
