Nevada’s Sharron Angle shuts out the media

Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle has little love for the media these days.

Now, she and her campaign are simply shutting out the Fourth Estate.

In a radio interview aired this morning, the candidate made it clear that her campaign is not talking to reporters — and her silence is journalists’ fault because they’re “unprofessional.” She added that others should follow her lead.

“We need to bring back the professionalism into reporting, and I think that when we have an opportunity to teach a lesson, we should,” Angle said in the interview with conservative talk show host Heidi Harris.

Angle mentioned a recent run-in with a journalist at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, where a local reporter asked her questions about her position on several military issues, and described the experience as “an ordeal” and the “wrong place for a press interview.”

The journalist in question, Nathan Baca at CBS affiliate KLAS-TV, has said that he went to the airport as a last-ditch effort after Angle’s campaign repeatedly refused to answer questions.

The campaign banned Baca from the GOP’s election night party at the Venetian Hotel.

Angle isn’t swearing off the media forever. She said she’d just “like to have objective questioning and true professional reporting.”

Angle and her husband, Ted, spent their Tuesday morning voting at McQueen High School in Reno.

Early this evening, she is scheduled to arrive at the Peppermill Resort in Reno, to spend some time with supporters — and reportedly no reporters are allowed — before flying to Las Vegas and heading to the Venetian to attend the state GOP election night party.
