Schedule outlined for Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear

Fans of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert may be hoping for a political call-to-arms at Saturday’s Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear at the National Mall, but based on the schedule the Comedy Central duo provided the National Park Service, it appears they’re in for more of a comedy-and-music variety show.

According to the permit application filed by the rally’s organizers, the event will kick off at noon ET with a pre-show performance by The Roots and will conclude with a taped piece dubbed “The Sanity and Fear Awards.”

Here’s the schedule, according to The Christian Science Monitor :

—10 a.m.: The pre-pre-show begins with videos and music shown on a giant video screen. .

—Noon: The pre-show starts with a performance from The Roots.

—12:40: A comedian (to be determined) warms up the audience.

—12:57: A video countdown with a show introduction.

—1 p.m. The show kicks off with the national anthem by a musical guest (to be announced).

—1:05: Stewart welcomes the crowd.

—1:20: Colbert enters. Actors Don Novello and Sam Waterston perform readings.

—1:40: Jeff Tweedy and Mavis Staples perform for 10 minutes, followed by Stewart and Colbert until 2 p.m.

—2:15: Sheryl Crow performs for five minutes, followed by speakers and guests (to be determined).

—2:30: Musical guests (still being lined up) come on.

—2:40: The show turns to a pre-taped sequence – The Sanity and Fear Awards.

While Comedy Central has assiduously avoided crowd projections, its permit application lists an expected crowd of 60,000. Nearly 225,000 people had RSVP’d on the event’s Facebook page as of Thursday morning.
