Report: Police investigating online link between Anthony Weiner, teen

Police in Delaware are investigating the online connection between Rep. Anthony Weiner (D.-N.Y.) and a 17-year-old girl in New Castle, the Associated Press reported Friday.

Officers interviewed the girl Friday afternoon. Weiner’s office denied there was any inappropriate contact, the AP said.

The interview was first reported by FoxNews.com, which had a reporter at the girl’s home when police arrived.

“According to Congressman Weiner, his communications with this person were neither explicit nor indecent,” a spokeswoman for the New York Democrat said.

The AP said that New Castle County police confirmed officers had interviewed a local teenage about online contacts with Weiner, under fire for having sexually charged exchanges with at least six women through social networks.

“They were made aware of an alleged contact between Congressman Anthony Weiner and an area teen,” said Officer Tracey Duffy, a New Castle County police spokeswoman, according to the AP. “The teen has been interviewed and disclosed no information regarding any criminal activity.”

FoxNews.com reported that the girl followed Weiner on Twitter after seeing him speak during a school trip to Washington on April 1 and that after Weiner signed on to follow the girl’s Twitter feed, he sent a message to the girl on April 13.

Weiner, 46, who is married to an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is facing increasing pressure from both Democrats and Republicans to resign his Brooklyn- and Queens-based seat. He also could face an inquiry from the House Ethics Committee.
