For the record
Telephone tax: An article in Wednesday’s California section about the city of Los Angeles’ telephone users tax gave the date of the state’s presidential primary election as Feb. 15. The correct date is Feb. 5, which is when the tax measure will appear on the ballot.
KKJZ-FM: An article in Wednesday’s Calendar about KKJZ-FM (88.1) said that the station was created 26 years ago as KLON-FM. In fact, KLON went on the air in 1950; it has been programming jazz for 26 years.
Puppet shows: An information box that accompanied an article in Wednesday’s Calendar about the National Puppet Theatre of Japan said the troupe would be giving performances at 2 and 8 p.m. Sunday. Those performances will be Saturday.
Lick Observatory: The obituary of Paquita Machris in Wednesday’s California section incorrectly said the Lick Observatory is in Santa Cruz. Although the research facility is headquartered at UC Santa Cruz, the actual observatory is located atop Mt. Hamilton, east of San Jose.
Football rankings: A correction on Wednesday’s A2, about Sunday’s chart in Sports listing No. 1- and No. 2-ranked teams that lost on the same day, said No. 2 Oklahoma lost to No. 5 Texas, 60-13, on Oct. 8, 1977. The score was 13-6.
Herndon obituary: The obituary of Doolittle Raider Nolan A. Herndon in Monday’s California section gave his nickname as Sue. In fact, he was known only as Nolan Anderson Herndon. In addition, his sons were listed as Nolan A. “Sue” Herndon Jr. and James M. “Debbie” Herndon. Neither son goes by those nicknames; Sue and Debbie are the names of their wives.
Neighborly advice: The column in the Oct. 14 Real Estate section referred to Palms Avenue as a border of Mar Vista Hill. The street is Palms Boulevard.
